Over 100 Years Of Box Making



  1. 1893

    Rigid ContainersOur history dates back to 1893. At the time, Sir Horace Plunkett was pioneering the introduction of co-operative organisations throughout the country. Our company was established by a group of shareholders.


  1. 1900

    Rigid ContainersAs the co-op grew larger, they commenced selling their own produce and adapted into a bulk buying organisation providing agricultural supplies and general hardware to its shareholder. Pictured is Sir Horace Plunkett.


  1. 1953

    Rigid ContainersIn the mid fifties, we manufactured wooden butter and cheese boxes. Timber was replaced with fibreboard and in 1967 we commenced manufacturing and selling corrugated under the trading name of Europaks.


  1. 1966

    Rigid ContainersOn 24th October 1966, the first sod was cut, commemorating the new opening of the factory, courtesy of the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, C.J. Haughney.

  2. 1968

    Rigid ContainersIn 1968, the co-op installed its first corrugator for manufacture of corrugated board. In 1971, the name of the company officially changed their name to the “Irish Co-op Society."


  1. 1990

    Rigid ContainersDedication to excellence has always been the philosophy at Europaks Corrugated Cases, and this determination was duly rewarded by the National Standards Authority of Ireland with the ISO 9002 Quality Award.

  2. 1993

    Rigid ContainersIn 1993, the company celebrated the first century as a business. Liam Ahern - Chief Executive and Will Nagle - Chairman.


  1. 2012

    Rigid ContainersIn 2012, the name was changed again to ICS Europaks Limited.

  2. 2015

    In 2015, we were acquired by Rigid Containers Group, the UK trading division of VPK Group. Our name changed to Rigid Ireland.
